Role: Production Engineering Manager

OVERVIEW:
My client is a market-leading manufacturer and supplier of environmental protection and safety products for fluid transfer operations within the Oil and Gas industry. Their world class products have become an industry standard with a reputation for quality and reliability.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a fast-growing dynamic company within a global group to help develop its engineering function.
ROLE PURPOSE:
Leading the Production Engineering team and working alongside the Operations team to improve quality, safety, cost, and delivery by taking ownership of manufacturing excellence and annual capex while providing technical engineering and problem-solving support to production.
A key aspect of this role will be Lean leadership skills, to facilitate the introduction of cellular manufacturing.
SKILLS:
- Managing the Production Engineering team, setting and measuring targets based on the company’s strategic objectives.
- Lead the company’s Manufacturing Excellence (ME) program by identifying opportunities for optimising manufacturing processes and eliminating waste to improve SQCD and contribute savings to annual cost savings target.
- Overseeing new product introduction (NPI).
- To take ownership of routing processes and times in ERP including updating of processes, accuracy of times, updating times, defining new times.
- To manage the maintenance, servicing and upkeep of the company production assets and facilities to enable efficient and safe operation.
- To work with Production Management and Team leaders to identify, record & reduce rework in all areas of manufacturing.
- Working alongside the Operations Director to forecast and target underlying and strategic capex.
- Working with operations team to develop and document SOP’s for all key processes to ensure delivery of SQCD.
- Mentor Production Engineering Apprentices.
- To undertake any reasonable task required of the individual, given sufficient training and instruction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proficient in 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks) and producing 2D manufacturing drawings.
- Good people management, team building skills and driven collaborative leader.
- Confident working in both workshop and office environments with a range of departments and people with different skill sets.
Knowledge
- Design For Manufacture (essential)
- Understanding, interpreting, and applying GD&T.
- Good understanding of manual and CNC machining processes. (essential)
- Cellular manufacturing. (essential)
Experience
- 5+ Years in manufacturing (high value low-medium quantities) (desirable)
- 2+ Year in workshop environment. (essential)
- Use of ERP/MRP Systems (desirable).
Qualifications
- Degree or HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (Preferrable)
- Manufacturing apprenticeship (Preferrable)
- IOSH Managing Safely (desirable)
Note: There will be a requirement for UK and foreign travel to visit existing and future potential suppliers. Also this role is not suitable for candidates based overseas requiring work visa sponsorship.
